Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Thank you :o

Now this Tennessee Hilbilly has another "BRAIN MEAL" to digest. But I am not going to quit until I can do all these things.
I did not know there was another version of AUDACITY. I will have to see if I can find out how to get it?? I think I have V126???

Answer to KOZ's last post to me.

ANS. >KOZ - Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:54 pm

1. Understood, and I have an 120GB WD-EX HD.
However, not being able to understand the dantz Retrospect software setup, I am using the IDIOT - 1 button backup which by default copies doc's,misc.files,music,pic's,desktop,etc. I have 96GB of space, and I think I should be able to use it.without hurting the WAV files on my PC harddrive sense it only backs up whats there. I can also drag & drop into the EX HD.

I have thought about buying a small 2Gb U3 USB 2.0 Drive. They are on sale all the time. I don't know how much space is needed for the WAV files?
But then again mabey I don't need to spend $$ on something I don't need.

2.Understood

3. & 4. I only use WMP10 to listen to my music, for me it is the easiest one to use. I have tried others but gave up on them - to much for my small brain (winamp5, K-Lite Media Player Classic 321 ??? NO CAN DO)
I use Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD V. 8.3.0.8 for burning & coping CD's and DVD's
sometimes I use Nero. They seem to do all right.

5. Understood.
5b. I only have 1 hard drive in my PC 120GB & the EX HD also 120GB.
Question all my music is in a folder (MY MUSIC) in MY DOC.s
However in my "C" drive there is a BLANK folder called "MY MUSIC".(why that is there - I don't know it never gets used?) could I change the name of that folder to AUDACITY MUSIC FILES and still do what you said, naming and exporting the WAV files to that folder? I have allready put a new folder with that name in the EX HD.

I have to say: You make it sound so easy!!!

I wasn't going to try to make the lables but thanks to WC, I will give it a try.
He makes it sound so easy.!!!

ok a tiny bit more "brain meal"

you can download the latest Beta version of Audacity 1.3.3 from the Audacity website http://audacityteam.org/ - this site also has loads of useful information in the Wiki, tutorials etc., just click on the Help tab ......

If you follow the link you will see the warning that this is the Beta "Unstable" version - but as I said in my previous post I now use 1.3 for all my audio work with no problems - I do "Save Project" (shortcut Ctrl-S) very regularly though ....

BTW: note also that you can have both 1.2 amd 1.3 on the same machine with no problems.

Just be aware that you can open a project that you created in 1.2.x in 1.3.x - BUT you then can never re-open it in 1.2 (so if you do that you might want to make a backup safety copy of your 1.2 project under a slightly different project name). Similarly if you create a project in 1.3 you can't open it in 1.2.

ANS> WC 9/24 07 ok a tiny bit more "brain meal" :o

I did see that Beta version of Audacity 1.3.3 when I first joined, but it said for ADVANCED users so I downloaded the V-1.2.6 instead. I have made copies of you and KOZ's mini tutorials and I think I had better start with them first and when I am able to do what they say, I will then look into the V1.3.3. (I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.)

I do have one more question I would like to ask from KOZ's last reply to me on: ( by kozikowski on Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:54 pm ) from # 1.
(Pull one of those performance files into Audacity and edit your brains out. When you're done, Export a Uniquely named WAV file that will be burned to a CD later. Do Not name it the same as the capture masters. Somebody else posted earlier about trying to do this. Terrible idea)
QUESTION, what about the original unedited Exported WAV file? Should I replace it with the NEW EDITED file. Otherwise I will have tons of files.
Original unedited files and the NEW edited masters.????
I think my brain is scrambled now!!!
--------------------------------------
Does it matter that I embedded :
ANS. >KOZ - Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:54 pm
in a QUOTE to you? ( I don't know) I hope he reads it.
---------------------------------------------------------
With all this talk about editing I remembered something that came with the ION iTTUSB Turntable CD :

Congratulations on your purchase of your ION product! Included with this product are a number of trial editions of
BIAS audio software - among them is SoundSoap 2 - the “1-click audio cleaning solution”. SoundSoap 2 is perfect
for cleaning up clicks, crackles, pops, broadband noise, electrical hum, rumble, and practically any other kind of
unwanted background noise from cassette, LP, and live recordings, as well as many types of background noise
picked up when shooting video.
-----------------------------------------------------------
This is a trial vervion and after 14 uses it stops working and has to be purchased. I do not intend to do that. But I have found a LIGET program I can download free.
What do you or KOZ think of programs like this? I have not tried it so I don't know if it works.I was going to try it when I get some WAV files exported.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it. :!:

,,,what about the original unedited Exported WAV file? Should I replace it with the NEW EDITED file. Otherwise I will have tons of files.Original unedited files and the NEW edited masters.???? >>>

Well, yes, but maybe not as many as you think. Take GMiller_Side1.wav. You can clean that one up, de-click it, equalize, etc. etc. etc. as you like and save that one as GMiller_Side1_clean.wav. That's the last permanent file.

Load GMiller_Side1_clean.wav and cut it up into tracks. Save as Chatanooga_choochoo.wav, Pennsylvania65000.wav and throw them into your burning program. After you're happy with the final CD, throw Chatanooga_choochoo.wav and its cousins away. Technically, you don't need GMiller_Side1_clean.wav, any more either, but it's usually very difficult to digitally clean a vinyl record, so I would keep that one around.

So that's two. The GMiller_Side1.wav and GMiller_Side1_clean.wav. The first one represents the direct vinyl capture. That's the one you lock up in a nice room. In Hollywood that would be the Camera Negative--the one you lock in a vault.

The second one is the one you spent all Saturday removing the clicks and noise so you may want to keep that one too. That's the one that can be easily cut up into individual tracks to burn a new CD. You can duplicate the first physical CD that you made if you want to, so you don't need anything other than those. That's it. Two sound files.

All that said, it never works out that way. Once you get your individual tracks from the "clean" master, the urge to get rid of that one track you never liked very much anyway will be overwhelming. You will be called upon to provide a "Dance Mix" which has only the upbeat GMiller cuts and none of the Ballads. Wait, isn't that an Artie Shaw tune in there? How did you do that?

Somebody will listen and suggest that you can smash "In The Mood" and "Tuxedo Junction" together and make one seven-minute long track that nobody on earth has ever heard before. Oh yes you can do that.

You haven't gotten there yet, but editing is far worse than Heroin Addiction. There is an entire wing at Betty Ford.

One other idea. You will get better at this as you go, particularly at cleaning and de-popping--or you may find a new software program that does a much better job than your old one. You may also find that by the third or fourth album, you're much better at it and you can't stand to listen to the earlier cleaning jobs.

That's when you go back into the vault and drag out the original vinyl capture files; GMiller_Side1.wav. Without those you're dead. DO NOT delete those.

Tomorrow I plan on reviewing and doing.
You rang my chimes because I am allready planning to redo my first LP,I don't like the way it turned out the first time ( It's my Favorite -Shirley Bassey--something else) and I want to see if I can do a better job now that I know what to do FIRST.

My PC has been sick again :( but it is well enough to ask another DUMB question.
When I first recorded a record the Curser was moving along pretty good and when it got to the right side it jumped back to the left side and continued doing it's thing back and forth as it recorded the songs on the record to AUDICITY . (I have recorded 3 and exported them as wav. files.) Well it refuses to do that any more no matter what I do, it just moves from right to left( I mean left to right). I have pushed everything i can but to no avail. I guess it does'nt matter but I just liked it better when it jumped back to the left side each time it got to the right side. AM I CRAZY OR WHAT :?:
Anyway I would like to get it back doing it's left to right thing if possible. But I guess i should just be happy if it does what it is supposed to do.
Any HELP will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for answering. I did get an answer from (altham) on the new thread and he explained what was going on and gave me some good advice.
I hope that some day I will get these Forums figured out. They are a great help to me but I have trouble working them. And each Forum is different. Pretty hard on an old PCDUMMY like me.
Thanks again
