Changing sample rating distorts sound

Hello,

I am new to these forums so apologies if this question has been answered before. I checked the FAQs and tried searching the forums using advanced search.

My problem is that when I change the sample rating of my 48000hz mp3 file to 44100hz, the sound is slightly distorted: it seems slowed down. Is it possible to change a sample rating without getting distortion? If so, how? :D

regards

R.

Use the "project rate" in the lower left corner of the main Audacity window.
When you Export your audio, the sample rate will be the same as the project rate.

If you need a track to be in a specific format, though there are very few good reasons why you would need to do that, select the track and do a Quick Mix (project menu) and the resulting mix will be at the sample rate selected in the "project rate".

Excellent. I changed the project rate and audacity saved the mp3 with the selected sample rating.

Many thanks!
