okay i wasted my time with the wiki thing.
does anyone know how to record sounds that i can hear on the speakers - from a website?
this used to be such great software - then Vista messed it up.
i hear vista is being replaced with windows 7 next year!
thanks IF you can help.

The recording inputs that you can select in Audacity depend entirely upon the combination of your soundcard, its associated driver software and the O/S. Andyes Vista is famous for making this harder.
You may be able to get around this by purchasing an external soundcard and looping back the outputs to the inputs - I have to work it this way on my desktop with XP-HE - ironically my newer laptop with XP-HE records from t'interweb just fine.
Part of the problem, it is rumoured, is that manufactures are under pressure from the music IPR/copyright holders to remove or cripple the facilty to record streamed audio.
BTW: yes indeed Windows 7 is out in Beta for developers - however as its is based on the Vista s/w architure the underpinnings are unlikely to change much - it will mainly be the UI/GUI that changes.
