Recording 4 Channels at Once - Delta 44

Windows XP SP2
Dell 2000 mhz
768 RAM
Delta 44 Soundcard, driver 5.10.0.5065
Audactiy 1.2.6

I've checked the forums and the Wiki, and it seems I should have no problems recording 4 tracks - I realize that I won't have the option of choosing inputs for each track, but I can deal with that. I can successfully record when I select Delta 1/2 or Delta 3/4 or Delta Multi at two channels for my recording device, but that only gives me 2 tracks. When I select 4 tracks, I get the error described below.

I have my Delta driver and Audacity program both set at the same rates but I get this Error: Error while opening the sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

I saw in another thread that I should click on Help in Audacity then device settings, but in my Help my options are Contents and About, neither of which were helpful.

Any thoughts on what I can do here?

Have a go with Audacity 1.3.6

Thanks for the very prompt response on the first post!

Bummer, after installing the beta - 1.3.6, doesn't offer any options for more than 2 channels (stereo). Just to be sure, I checked the Audio Device Info - confirms my worst fears - only 2 channels for stereo available both for input and output.

Any dev plans in the future to allow multi channel use with M-Audio? Or is this a Delta 44 specific issue?

I've just done a search of the forum, and according to this post: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... +44+#p4065 you should set the recording device to "M Audio Delta 44 Multi" which "should" enable you to select 4 channels. If this does not work, you may need to update, or even "down date" the sound card drivers (hopefully it won't come to that).

Do let us know how you get on.

Yep, you nailed it. I was already trying the Delta 44 Multi, it was my versions that weren't working. I've rolled back to the following:
M-Audio Delta 44 driver - Delta_WDM_5.10.00.5052v3
Audacity 1.2.6
These two versions work together no problem.

Note, I tried the rolled back driver with the 1.3.6 Beta, but after selecting Delta 44 Multi, still didn't offer me more than two channels as an option. I was pleasantly surprised that 1.2.6 did off me those channels and this time they worked!

stevethefiddle, thanks so much for your insights into what was a pretty simple problem. Much appreciated!

Thanks for reporting your results.
Several people have asked about the M-Audio Delta 44, so it's good to have confirmation that it can work, even if it's a bit fiddly to get started.
