echo while recording, how do i reset defaults

Post by angrykirby » Sun Oct 26, 2008 7:16 pm

I don't know what I did but when I record it now echos like a double track, it didnt used to do this. So how do I fix it, or how do I reset everything to default or what's the regedit number so I can reinstall. I'm sure you guys know how to do one of these, please tell me how to.

On 1.2 the preferences are held in the windows registry - so resetting can be tricky if you don't like editing the registry (I don't!). It's easier in 1.3 as the preferences are set per user and are held in and audacity.cfg file - so resettting is done in 1.3 by just removing this file.

See this page on the Wiki for fuller guidance: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... references.

Though from what you describe it sounds as though you have got the "Play other tracks while recording new one" checked - so try resettting just this first - you get to it via Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O

1.3 is buggy as hell on my computer so If any one knows how to reset the defaults in 1.2 that'd be helpful

In addition to WC's comments - check that your sound card does not have any "sound effect enhancements" (sometimes called "environmental audio") enabled.
