error message

Hi,
I was converting LPS to CDS successfully for a while. I just converted an LP to a CD then tried to record another album and while the album was playing I received the following error message - it listed a path (c:.....audacity_1_2_tempb00323.au) & "error 3 - the system cannot find the path specified". I cannot even find that path or directories on my computer. I am using audacity 1.2.6 with windows XP. I then uninstalled audacity and reinstalled it thinking that would fix the problem but it didn't. The error message occurred more than halfway through the album. When I say ok to the error message and look back, I see a flat line but when the album was playing I saw the usually waveform. Can you please help me to solve this problem. I really like the program & I have been using it for a while with no problems, until now. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, in advance.

It is possible then, that the directory or files are set as "hidden" in windows - try setting them to be visible, so that Wondows Explorer will show them.

A thought: do you have enough/any free disk space for you Audacity temp folder?

UPDATE:: if you ae running out of disk space you may need to release some by deteting the old Audacity projects (the .aup and .au files for each project). When you have exported the WAVs to make a CD (and hopefully also backed up the WAVs - I would suggest an external drive for this) then you can delete the project. The projects take up a lot of disk space!

It seldom does help - apart from anything else your Preferences are not removed when you uninstall Audacity - in 1.2.x which you are using, Audacity makes registry entries for the preferences - in 1.3.x it creates a configuration file audacity.cfg per user.

I found the audacity temp folder and it has no contents. On the bottom of Audacity it says I have over 130 hours left and my hard drive has lots of space left (over 50 GB).

One thing you could try to do is to avoid letting Audacity use the temp files at all.

You can do this by saving your totally empty project, prior to recording, to it's target projectname destination. This is often recommended as "best practice" anyway.

I'm not sure that it is recommended as a "best practice", but it is a very handy way of keeping an eye on the temporary files (and is a method that I frequently use).

Thanks, that worked but isn't that just a way around the error message. How do I actually fix the problem? Is it a software problem or is something wrong with the turntable because the product is new and if it is the turntable I would like to get it replaced.

Ok, I am having another issue.....I beginning to think something is wrong with either the program or turntable. Now when I am playing a record and recording it through audacity......there are 2 waveforms (one on top & one on the bottom). Now the one on the bottom, occasionally will be a thick flat line for half a song then go back to normal, then a few songs later do the same thing. What do I need to do to correct all these problems. Can I uninstall audacity completely & reinstall or is it the turntable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's almost certainly not an Audacity problem, but one of the many variations of the classic USB problems.

Sometimes using a different USB port can help. Also avoid using any other programs at the same time as Audacity, especially anything that is CPU intensive. It is usually best to disable Windows update while you are recording, and switch off screen savers (put the power saving options to "permanently on"/"Presentation mode".

Check the Audacity wiki (link at top of page) for optimisation tips and do a search there for anything about USB.
