creating multiple mp3's out of one song

Post by bicho » Wed Sep 19, 2007 3:47 am

I ripped a dvd from a live concert and would like to know how to separate each song from the file. The (song) file is big and like to make it in 15 tracks.

TIA!

If the audio is already in audacity and is one long single track the way to separate the tracks is to highlight the portion that is a particular song and then export it to a .wav file, repeat until you have all the songs, then burn yourself a cd. I assume this is what you are asking how to do.

bicho,

level's method will work absolutely fine - but a quicker way will be to place a label at each track break - use the Ctrl-B shortcut - and don't forget to place a label right at the beginning for the first track.

Then use Audacity's Export Multiple command (available from the File drop-down) to export a multiple set of WAVs, MP3s or whatever.

The Audacity Wiki has much useful information on how to do this - a recommended read.

Thank you both for responding. I could use either method for creating the files. My question now is...
When I insert a break and/or highlight the length of the song for export, how do I adjust the end of the song to my pref. without having to listen to the whole song again?

Bicho,

Are you saying you want Audacity to stop playing when it gets to that marker? You can just highlight the portion you want to listen to and hit 'play'. Audacity will stop automatically when it gets to the end of the highlighted part.
