Input Selector Problems

I don't understand why it goes gray even when I just want to record off my own computer? Either way though I just got a new motherboard with an integrated sound card and now the Input selector is gray. I cannot figure out how to solve it, I've gone into the I/O Preferences and it doesn't change anything no matter what I do.
