Meter Toolbar - green output

I am new to Audacity and am using an ARTcessories USB Phono Plus to convert my vinyl to CD. I am converting OK but am curious why my green output meter does not work. It did when I first set up. Is there a "magic" switch I am missing, or perhaps it is not meant to light up when I am recording tracks to my Audacity files.

Just click ONCE in the input meter bar and then monitoring will be turned on prior to recording (I believe that this is an undocumented feature of Audacity).

don't worry - I don't believe that any of us find this "feature" just by stumbling across it.
Some of us have had long e-discussions with the developers about making this functionality much more transparent - one sugggestion being that metering should be "alway on" just is is always was on your old tape deck of minidisc deck .....
