recording from DAT with USM analog to digital cable

Post by beck7272 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 1:06 am

I'm trying to record onto Audacity from a DAT player, using the CD player input, with a USM brand analog to digital cable. I get a signal but it's very high top to bottom, and it doesn't look like mic-input waveforms. I'm wondering if the digital signal is not compatible with Audacity. Should I just go into the computer with analog all the way from the DAT machine? The DAT machine has RCA outputs. I have a Dell Windows machine, and I'm not too familiar with the inputs for sound, if any, on that machine. Any help would be appreciated.
