Where's 'What U Hear'?

Hi gang --
I've read several Wiki pages and checked for driver updates on the Sigma Tel sound device, but I'm still having trouble recording what's coming our of the speakers. In the mixer toolbar, my only choices are microphone, line in or rear mic. How do I get the "What U Hear" choice to appear? Thanks in advance for any help.

"What U Hear" may be called "Stereo Mix" or just "Mix".
Check in the Options/advanced properties of your sound card control panel/mixer and see if there are any hidden options.
Some sound cards, particularly on-board sound cards on newer laptops do not have the option for Stereo Mix as an input.
There are sometimes other ways to record things that do not require the Stereo Mix option. What are you trying to record?

Still trying. For a test, I started up an mp3 file in Winamp, then hit record on Audacity. No sound from any of the three panel settings of microphone, line in or rear mic. I couldn't find advanced settings anywhere on the sound card control panel that would help. What I'm trying to do is record sound that comes through the speakers, either from a file on the computer or from an Internet site, like the audio portion of an online video.
Any ideas? Thanks again.
