Can Audacity figure out the PITCH of a song?

Post by flametiger74 » Sun Oct 12, 2008 2:32 am

Is Audacity able to figure out what key or pitch a recorded song is playing in, and can somebody explain to me how the "Change Pitch" effect works? :D

The "Plot Spectrum" function in the "Analyze" menu will show you what frequencies are present. From that you can calculate the pitch of a particular note - for example, if the spectrum shows a marked peak at 440 Hz, then the note playing is an "A".

"Change Pitch" makes the audio higher or lower in pitch by the amount that you select. It does this without changing the speed (tempo).
