I can use a variety of recording software applications, and i still have this problem since i completely rebooted my pc. EVerything used to work fine and dandy, got a virus desided to wipe the pc clean, works fine. When i go to hit record i see the sound waves fine, and when i play it back or export it, there's this white noise behind it, the recording doesn't show the noise though, it makes no sense to me at all >.< any suggestions???

In what sense does the recording not show the noise - you mean if you stop singing or playing you see nearly a flat line in the waveform? At a guess you are playing back with your inbuilt sound device (see the Audio I/O tab of Audacity Preferences for what device you are playing back with in Audacity) but after reinstalling Windows you did not reinstall the sound device drivers that came with the PC's drivers CD. If you don't have the CD see:

I don't even need to have a guitar or anything hooked up to the mixer, as long as the mixer is plugged in, and i hit record i get awful white noise. Whether i'm hitting strings or not >.<

So you are now saying recording is the problem, not playback? Try an experiment. In Audacity, click Generate > Tone. Play it back in Audacity, with the inbuilt sound device selected as playback device in the Audio I/O tab of Preferences. Is noise added or can you only hear the tone? If you only hear the tone then it is a problem with the mixer. You presumably formatted the PC drive. So you presumably no longer have the drivers for the mixer. I'd suggest then going to the appropriate page on the Alesis site according to whether this is a USB or Firewire version:

and download the latest drivers and firmware.

I really appreciate the help, I do think it's the mixer. Regardless i can't figure out why. I can record with a horrible computer mix and i don't get the buzz. I don't have the 2.0 version of the mixer so it supposedly doesn't need software, it's killing me >.<''
