File Size Limitations?

My Boss wanted a free wav editor to do some concatenations of wav files for a project. These wav files combined were 12 gigs +. The problem is that after working all day editing these files and creating a project He found that the files contained large blank spaces where there was missing (verbal) text. While I was listening to them I could see the cursor moving over a sign wave but there was no sound and if I "zoomed" in then the sign wave went flat. I don’t know what he did, He claims he just concatenated files and deleted blank segments. So... is there a file size limitation with this software or maybe a known problem like mine. I recommended this software and need to CYA on this situation.

WAV files are limited to 4GB http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV
Audacity 1.3.x does not itself have any file size limits, though some users have reported problems with recordings that last more than 12 hours.

A common reason for missing audio in Audacity projects is due to the user being overly tidy and deleting "unused" files from their computer, being unaware that these files are still being used in the Audacity project.
