Not Recording Stereo

This has me really frustrated. I have a Mobile Pre USB with a Behringer C-1 mic. I setup everything on my laptop and I can record my voice in stereo.

I decided to move my "home studio" onto my desktop and installed all the software and can only record my mic in mono on the left channel. I opened up my laptop and matched all the settings, to no avail.

It is set to record on 2 channels.

What am I missing?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

No you can't.
The Behringer C-1 is a mono device and it only records in mono. You may have been able to record 2 identical channels in a stereo track, but it is still mono. (listen through headphones and you will hear the sound as if it is located in the middle of your head).

If you particularly want the recording on a stereo track (for example so that you can apply stereo reverb):
  • Set your recording to "channels = 1 (mono)" and record.
  • Create a new stereo track from the project menu (track menu in Audacity 1.3.x),
  • Generate some silence (from the generate menu),
  • then select both your mono recording and the "stereo silence" track and select "Quick Mix" from the "Project" menu ("Mix and Render" from the "Tracks" menu in Audacity 1.3.x).
