I am attempting for the first time to record some old cassettes to cd using my computer. My problem seems to be that my hook up might not be working or I need to adjust some controls. I am using a double sided headphone jack. I have connected one side into the boom box's headphone and the other into the computer's headphone. I don't hear any sound when I turn on the cassette tape. However, my computers speakers work fine when I play music on them. What should I try? Thanks so much. I am not at all an electronic person. I appreciate so much any helpl!

I use an inport for my casset... it hooks up to comp via usb port
something like this...
http://www.dansdata.com/inport.htm
once plugged in the computer should automatically upload the hardware
then open audacity click on "edit" then "preferences" under "audio I/O" tab there will be a section labeled "recording" click on the "channels" drop down menu and select the correct "inport" (i use windows direct inport) hope this helps

Your boom box sends audio
out of its headphone socket.

Got an idea of what's wrong?
You need to get the audio
in to your computer, so you need to connect the
output from the boom box to an
input on the computer. The input should be a "line" input, not a microphone input. Microphone inputs are too sensitive and will be very prone to distortion unless you keep the output from the boom box very low.
