Exporting a stereo file to MP3

I have just finished polishing and finishing my first show, and the ability to add files to a single recording has worked just fine, but the sound is very left and right and not a steroe blend is that is the right word

I am using PowerGramo to record from Skype and then exporting the sound file as an MP3. Then I open the MP3 file which is a single track with left and right, which I think is a product of PowerGramo as I ask it to record each channel seperately.

I have a couple of questions:

Can I merge the left and right sides of the single track to one file so I do not get one person from the left and the other from the right?

There are some advantages in being able to balance the volume so how do I in v1.2.6 export the file to MP3 so it does not have seperate channels or again is this a product of PowerGramo recording?

I will be doing some tests with getting the PowerGramo to not record each channel but any help/guidance would be grateful received.

So PowerGramo produces a stereo file with one voice on the left, and the other voice on the right?
And you want both voices in the middle, or at least nearer to the middle?

If I've got that right:

Open or Import the file into Audacity
Click on the name of the track, and from the drop down menu, select "Split Stereo Track"
Click on the name of one of the tracks and in the drop down menu, change it from "Left channel" (or right channel) to "Mono".
Repeat for the other track.

Both tracks will now play equally from each speaker, (they are both in the centre of the stereo field).
If you want one to be a little to the left or right, use the "Pan" slider that is located below the volume slider of the track.

If both tracks are set to dead centre, when you export it will produce a mono file - this can be useful for MP3's as they are a lot smaller than stereo files of the same quality. If one or both are off centre, then it will produce a stereo file when you export.
