Pulling audio from video clip?
Is there any way that I can pull audio from a video clip? Not sure if it is possible, but if it is, could someone tell me how to do it?
Re: Pulling audio from video clip?
If you mean getting the audio from a video file (such as Mpeg video, a VOB file, a WMV file, or similar) then download "SUPER" (by erightsoft) - it's a free format converter that will allow you to extract the audio digitally.

File, Import, Audio, VOB file - seg faults.
The import starts, the DVD spins, the progress indicator gets about 60% complete and then Audacity dies.

Have you got any thing like “Windows Movie Maker” or “Ulead VideoStudio” on your computer???
If not but your movie is on disk, or a file on your computer, you can play it and record the audio with audacity . You can actually record any sound you hear from your computer with audacity with a bit of a tweak. If your still stuck tell us a bit more

Re: Pulling audio from video clip?
Audacity does not support VOB files - as it says a couple of posts earlier, if you want to use VOB files (or any other unsupported audio format) you must convert them to a supported format first.tarvid wrote:File, Import, Audio, VOB file - seg faults.

I don't know if you have found the answer yet but I just installed the ffmpeg plug in and then opened an .avi file of a musical video clip and the audio was imported instantly, no sweat!
Hope this helps

It's the biggest pain in the ass to find the link.stevethefiddle wrote:If you mean getting the audio from a video file (such as Mpeg video, a VOB file, a WMV file, or similar) then download "SUPER" (by erightsoft) - it's a free format converter that will allow you to extract the audio digitally.

I think that will only work with Audacity 1.3.6 and later.charango wrote:I don't know if you have found the answer yet but I just installed the ffmpeg plug in and then opened an .avi file of a musical video clip and the audio was imported instantly, no sweat!
Yes it is, but since it's free and a very useful tool I think it's worth the effort.Al3x wrote:It's the biggest pain in the ass to find the link. [to download SUPER]

Thanks for the info, it's just that i'm very impatient. I'd follow a link which would take me to another link that tell how great the program is and what it's compatable with, etc etc.

Switch and Super are the two programs. The free one is a pain in the neck but the paid one is much easier in every way and converts more formats.
Or, yes, you can deal with ffmpeg. Both Audacities can be installed on your machine, but you can only use one at a time.
