HI
Been using Audacity on my previous PC without any problems
Recently changed to a laptop (Acer Aspire 5315), which has Vista - I constantly have to resist chucking the thing out the window.
I can record and get playback with no problems. Followed all the instructions for recording to the letter. However the sound quality is terrible. Sounds almost watery in playback. Never had these problems on my old PC
Is this an issue with my soundcard, Vista or how I've set up audacity
Help please it's driving me nuts
Can record but sound quality terrible

Re: Can record but sound quality terrible
Good move IMHO
When I recently bought my new laptop from Dell recently I insisted that they "downgrade" the O/S from Vista to XP-Pro and it has worked fine on Audacity for me (even allowing me to record streaming audio).
I do note that it is still licensed as a Vista machine - thus allowing those nice Microsoft marketing folk to chalk up another sale for Vista ....

funktifeyeno. That is the same problem that I have been having since I got a machine with Vista on it. The small sound and watery quality. The problem has to be with Vista itself and can't be fixed. Vista has so many problems. I will be changing back to XP.

Hmmm.
I have an Acer Extensa with Vista that I bought in May and it records just fine using Audicity 1.3.5.
Just wanted to post that and cast a ray of sunshine for all those who have no choice but vista.
And I don't doubt your problems as there's a lot of configuration mumbo jumbo to do to get a Winblows machine to work.
