Audacity ALWAYS freezes when I'm recording vinyl

Hey,
I've tried to use version 1.2.6 to record vinyl onto my computer thru my usb turntable. I make sure that the only program open is Audacity and the only thing playing is my turntable... except it will not stop freezing! I've tried to record a few different LPs and at different time periods Audacity freezes EVERY time. I have my settings set to stereo (channel 2), to 32-bit floating and importing at 192 kbps... should I try the new beta version? Thanks for any help!
