Update the drivers of the sound device you are using. They need to be Vista-specific drivers from the manufacturer of the sound device or motherboard manufacturer. See:borreken wrote:At the moment i have 2 pc's running..1 xp and a recent one runs vista.

The computer being new is not on Windows a guarantee that the sound device has the best drivers. Sometimes OEM manufacturers just include generic Microsoft drivers, which rarely perform well.borreken wrote:It is a new medion vista pc and it lookes like the drivers are up to date

What is the name of the Sound Device as stated in Device Manager, and the name of the driver provider?
Have you changed any settings in Audacity preferences or used Audacity before? If so you could also try resetting Audacity preferences.

Re: does not work with vista
I used Audacity to convert chunks of my vinyl collection using one of those USB turntables. Then I got a new laptop with Vista and Audacity just would not work, so i sold the turntable.
One year later and I was hoping the issues would be fixed, but after installing the latest Audacity, it seems not to be ideally the case.
Basically, whilst I can import some music MP3's, when importing from Youtube, which I can do on XP, the audio always plays back super fast and squelched.
Is there anything I can do about this?

Has this got anything to do with the current problem? Probably not, so let's not get distracted from the current problem.daxvondrac wrote:I used Audacity to convert chunks of my vinyl collection using one of those USB turntables. Do you still have an XP machine? Are you saying that you can have one file and it will work in XP, but not in Vista? If so, could you upload that file somewhere for us to have a look at (and post a link on the forum). If that's not what you are saying, and you have not tested the exact same file on an XP machine, then the file is probably not a genuine MP3 (could be WMA, or some other unsupported format). If it turns out that the file is an unsupported format, use a suitable converter (such as SUPER or Foobar2000 - both are free) to convert it to a supported format such as WAV.daxvondrac wrote:whilst I can import some music MP3's, when importing from Youtube, which I can do on XP, the audio always plays back super fast and squelched.

i have 2 pc's ..
1 vista
1 xp machine
I have now installed the latest sound driver..
realtech high definiton driver 6.0.1.5700 09 08 2008
I am running the programme in xp comtability and as an administrator
I just want to record a voice message...It is impossible on the vista machine..
Whenn ik hit the record button it starts recording but the mouse starts acting like crazy and i have to rboot the machine.
So i have used the xp machine for recording the file without any problem...

Re: does not work with vista
OK. Did you get this driver from realtek or on their advice? Their site seems to suggest now going through the motherboard manufacturer fror driver updates, rather than them offering direct downloads. And of course if this is 64 bit Vista, the sound drivers need to be 64 bit.
Does Audacity 1.3.5 Beta have the same problem?

Re: does not work with vista
The release version of Audacity is working (well, mainly) here in Vista.
What you don't say is what you are using as an audio source. A built in microphone? Or sound card? Or USB audio adapter?
And what kind of mouse you are using. If you said "A USB mouse and a USB audio adpater" I'd say your system is confusing the two devices.
So what are you using?
The sound systems in Vista have been totally changed from XP, if you open them from the control panel you will see a plethora of new settings and sometimes, the hardware and software break out into fistfights about who's going to take over things.
