Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Recording from cassette Tapes

Post by Sandgroper » Sat Jan 14, 2012 4:20 pm

Hi!
I have previously recorded from records on a Zennox turntable with success.

I recently purchased a simple tape to USB machine from Aldi (Tevion 48540), together with the driver etc. Recording went OK but exported files went onto playlists on Windows Media Centre, rather that to the library .

Some cannot be transferred to CD because Windows Media does not recognise the codec used.

Finally, from the discussions on the forum it would seem that Audacity version 1.3. is the way to go, even though I am still using Windows XP Professional.

Any comments would be gratefully received.

Regards. Sandgroper

Yes, Audacity 1.3.14 (Unicode). Get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Before you Export, check that the Project Rate (bottom left corner of the main Audacity window) is set at 44100 (click on it and change it if it is not 44100).

When you export, you will probably see the "Metadata Editor" window pop up - you can just click on "OK" to dismiss that window.

Once past the Metadata Editor there will be the File Export dialogue screen. Enter the name that you want for the file (to avoid problems, use only letters, numbers, space, hyphen and underscore, do not use other punctuation marks or other symbols.) Select "WAV (Microsoft) PCM 16 bit" as the file type, the browse to the location where you want to export the file and click "OK".
