I started using audacity a few days ago. I do a lot of things like play a deep bass riff, record THAT, stop it, and then put a guitar over it. It would be easy because i can listen to the first recording (the bass) while i start putting the new recording (the guitar) over it. BUT NOW i cant hear what i just played. whats going on? any help would b great. thanks
PS... i also downloaded that LAME download that lets u export it to MP3. does that have anything to do with it

<<<does that have anything to do with it>>>

Probably not.

Audacity Preferences > Audio I/O

Make sure either Software Playthrough or Hardware Playthrough is selected. Pick the one with the least delay problems while you're performing.

The Windows version does not have an option for Hardware Playthrough - hardware playthrough is the default setting and is set automatically unless you select "Software playthrough".

Software Playthrough should not normally be selected (other than in situations where hardware playthrough is not supported by the hardware, such as when recording from a USB turntable).

There is also a setting for "Play other tracks while recording new one". This should be selected.
