Hi,
Just wondered if someone would be able to help me with a setup query please. Basically am wanting to record my dj mixes in best quality possible. I am running timecode vinyls and a very basic 2 channel mixer that ony has 1 master output no rec or anything. The soundcard that came with the dvs is 4 in 4 out so all the inputs and outputs used up for the decks. At min have my mixer output going into input in back of stero. I tried last night running 3.5mm jack from both the stereo out and the mixer out into mic line in of my laptop and playing around with the preferences but the sound was terrible.
I also have a cheap external usb soundcard was wondering if anyway could incorporate that into my setup to record for better quality. Was thinking could maybe go from output on stereo with jack lead into line in on this soundcard then plug usb lead into laptop and record from this device.I would like to have sound coming through stereo when recording so can mix properly. I have a couple of 3.5 jack leads and a y splitter if needed. This soundcard also has a rec button that when press red red light comes on but don't know to listen back to recordings or anything as no software or cd came with it.
This is my soundcard.. http://www.ebuyer.com/106540-asonic-ext ... rd-a-cm106
Any help or advise would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ste

Re: Set up query
The Line-Out of your mixer and the Mic-In of your computer are incompatible with each other. We recommend the UCA-202 for these applications, but any USB sound card with Stereo Line-In will do.

You do need to pay attention. I have a USB sound card that also has Mic-In and it doesn't work any better than the Mic-In on the computer. Mic-In is very low level, sensitive and mono. Pretty much the exact opposite of your Mixer.
I use "Y" cables to split the signal coming out of the mixer to the sound system and the USB device.

Has any 1 got any ideas please. Been trying all morning with no success. Think going to buy a cheap stereo in sound card like behringer ufo 202 when get payed but really want to record a mix today. Ive been trying with my 2nd lapto to rec. I have the decks and mixer going to input on my stereo then a y cable coming out of the input and the 3.5mm end into line in on the 2nd soundcard. The laptop is running ubuntu and I have audacity installed. Ive opened the sound settings selected the soundcard to record from. Under that it says settings for selected device Analogue stereo input, output or duplex I selected input as coming into the line in. Then on next page brought input level down to about 30.
Then I opened audacity and under sound output speaker left that as default and next to mic icon changed it to my external soundcard.
When i press record usually just a flat line or sometimes can see a small waveform as if its picking up sound but then when play it back nothing recorded.
On youtube and a few online videos i have watched i have seen people plug rec out and sometimes if just one master output plug y cable straight into mic or line in on pc so figured this would be pretty much same thing but hopefully better quality.
Can any1 please advise where im going wrong. Thanks
Re: Set up query
After trying nearly all day i've now managed to get a half decent recording. I found Realtek control panel and adjusted the stereo volume and input settings. Ideally would like to run it through the line in on the external soundcard though as i think would be better quality but can't seem to figure it out. At least now can record some mixes though
