I have Audacity 1.2.6. I am attempting to load it on Windows XP.
On reacing the screen for Preferences the instructions are to
"set the recording device to USB Aodio device"
I am not able to locate USB Audio Device.
My choices are Microsoft Mapping or IDT Audio.
If this cannot be resolved, I will be forced to return
the device.
Please Advise.
Thank you,
Greenwillum

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Am I correct in thinking that you have recently purchased a USB turntable/cassette player or similar and that it came with Audacity 1.2.6 ?
Audacity 1.2 is now very old and has not been updated in years. I'd recommend that you download Audacity 1.3.13 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
Ensure that your USB device is connected before you run Audacity.
If you had to install drivers for your USB device you may need to reboot Windows.
