Problem recording from USB Turntable

Just purchased a Zennox USB Turntable that came complete with Audacity 1.2.6. Installed it yesterday and made a trial recording with no problem (can't remember what preferences were used, but I did not alter those that were preset). Switched computer on today, and get no output to the left and right channel indicators, nor to my external speakers. When I press the record button, get a series of regular clicks that builds up into negative feedback. Have switched USB ports, but to no avail. Am using Windows XP. I did notice from your FAQs that in the I/O preferences there should be a USB option, but this does not appear in my drop down menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mike B

Are you looking in the right place?
"Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"

As Steve says - and you may also need to re-set your Windows sound output to target your PC's onboard soundcard too.
When you plug in a USB device like this it normally takes over both the sound input and sound output (useful if you are using an external soundcard - but not so good when using a USB TT with no speakers!). Also note that AUdacity hands complete control over the input Audio to the USB device and I would not expect to see options available in the input selector dropdown - nor should the Audacity input level slider work.
