I was on audacity and i was changing around the pitch. i found this pitch that i like to my file and so I saved it but then when i tryed to go back on the next day, it said "couldnt find the project data folder: 'filename_data' " (fimename meaning the name of the file). I searched for it on the computer and it did not find the file either. Can someone please help me and figure out what the problem is? thank you!!

Look at the name of the .aup file. That project's _data folder has to have the same name as the .aup and be in the same folder. Example: Suppose it is called "guitar.aup". That .aup file is looking for a folder called "guitar_data" and that "guitar_data" folder has to be in the same folder that guitar.aup is in.

The problem is that I dont have that file. It didnt get created. All that was created was "filename.aup.bak". I searched for the data file but didnt find anything.

Same thing applies. The .aup.bak and .aup (if it existed) would both be looking for the same _data folder and that folder should have the same name that the .aup or .aup.bak have. Or did you save the project a second time with a completely different name with File > Save Project As?
Remember, the .aup file has to be in the same folder as the _data folder (the .aup should not be inside the _data folder).
If you don't have the .aup, then opening the .aup.bak will likely produce errors or possibly silent parts in the project. Have you searched for all the .aup files on your computer, including the Recycle Bin and hidden files and folders?
If you don't have the .aup but do have the _data folder then you might get better results than opening the .aup.bak by recovering the .au files directly from the _data folder into new WAV files. See:

Try this:
1) Open Audacity
2) From the Generate menu, generate a tone (all default settings)
3) From the File menu, Save the project to your Desktop.
Is there a project file (filename.aup) and a project folder (filename_data)?
