Audacity Closes Immediately

I teach online and use Audacity all the time on my Mac, with no problems. I introduced a fellow-teacher to Audacity - she uses Windows. I am not tech-savvy enough to help her with what may be a very basic question. She records, stops the recording and 6 times out of 10 (yes, she counted), she gets: Audacity.exe has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.Windows will clos the program and notify you if a solution is available. She's not able to even get so far as to save the recording or export or anything. Does anybody have any help? Thank you!

This is a known problem with Audacity 1.2.x on Vista/Win 7. (Audacity 1.2.x is too old for these operating systems)
For Vista / Win 7 Audacity 1.3.13 should be used (available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ )
