I have just installed Audacity 1.2 on a computer running Windows Vista
When I run the exe the front end does not display even though I can see the process in task manager
When I try and run the exe again I get an error message saying that another copy of Audacity is already open, yet I still can't see the front end
Please help!

Re: Audacity Won't Display
For Vista you should use Audacity 1.3.13
You can get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Re: Audacity Won't Display
I thought that might happen.
If the "Preferences" in Audacity 1.2.x were corrupted, then that will have corrupted the preferences for Audacity 1.3.x
1) Make sure there are no "audacity.exe" instances running on the "Processes" tab of Task Manager. If there are, right click over "audacity.exe" and choose "End Process Tree" (not "End Process").
2) Go to: Users<user name>AppDataRoamingAudacity
(you will need to make hidden files and folders visible).
3) Look to see if there is a file called audacity.cfg in that folder. If there is, then you will need to edit it. If there isn't you will need to create one.
To edit audacity.cfg, open the file in NotePad (File menu > Open)
If there is no audacity.cfg file, then create a new text file and save it with the name audacity.cfg
4) Edit audacity.cfg so that it has only these lines:
5) Save the file, then launch Audacity.

Re: Audacity Won't Display
I have tried everything in this thread and audacity still won't open. I am running vista. I created the text file, checked my drivers even reinstalled the whole program and it will not display, yet opens as an exe in my process tray.
Re: Audacity Won't Display
also worth noting, i tried the 1.2? version and it opened the program, though it doesn't work with vista, but the actual program opened instead of being an open exe. with no application launching.
