Strange recording issue

Post by Gabrie » Thu Oct 06, 2011 8:25 pm

Hi

My dad has an Lenco recordplayer connected over USB to his computer and uses audacity to record. When switching on the recordplayer and play a record, he can hear a clear sound come out of the pc. Now when he presses the record button in audacity the sound changes and a lot of noise is added. Myself I have the idea that it sounds like someone put the mic to 100% or maybe 150% :-) when recording. However, using the slider to turn down the recording sound doesn't seem to have any effect.

After some testing, I discovered that the same happens without using audacity, using the simple recording tool from windows. When starting the recording tool sound is good, when playing the recorded sound it is bad again.

I tried updating the "USB recording" device, but Windows thinks it has already gotten the best driver.

Any tips?

Newer Windows machines have automatic sound management for conferencing, Skype, and VOIP phone calls. It completely messes up straight recording.

See if any of that is set and turn it off. Restart Audacity and see if that helped.
