Audacity 1.3.13

Hi, I'm from Italy and trying to record a track directly from my pc (windows 7). I start guitar pro that is a program to run guitar tablature, and start the record on audacity, but it doesn't record anything nevertheless I try any possible combination of output and input source. Which is the problem and the right combination??

There is a special tool to record sound playing on your computer. Some computers will not do this at all.

Hi,
I tried everything that you suggested, but there is nothing to do. I also tried to install again audacity 1.2 on windows 7: they don't work, it seems impossible to record a track from pc. I've also tried to adapt the compatibility to windows 7 in the properties of audacity.exe; of course I've choosen SHOW DESABLED DEVICES and SHOW DISCONNECTED DEVICES, but the only recording device on windows 7 appears to be MICROPHONE (CONEXANT HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO). I've checked the levels and tried all the possible combinations, but nothing...
Help please!

Be aware that on some machines, the "Stereo Mix" option will never work because it is disabled internally by the driver settings due to copyright concerns. This is a known issue with Lenovo Thinkpad laptops, but sometimes editing the driver files can enable stereo mix.
If all else fails, you can connect a cable from the line-out (green) port of the computer to the line-in (blue), and choose the line-in as recording source. If you need to hear what you're recording, you can buy a single stereo to double stereo adaptor that will give you a spare jack to plug the speakers into. Alternatively, try Freecorder 3.0 which is a virtual sound driver distinct from your sound device. It installs as a browser plug-in. Note that later versions of Freecorder from the manufacturer's site do not record to WAV, forcing you to record to the lossy MP3 format. Or buy an external USB sound card, which normally offer a "stereo mix" type of option, such as the Trust Sound Expert External.

Thanks,but anyway I have a notebook,and it hasn't line-in or line-out of any colour. I understand that is a driver problem with windows 7 and perhaps with conexant speaker technology used by windows 7 about the audio. I also tried to download realtek drivers and motherhood driver upload from Acer,that is my pc factory...but nothing to do. It doesn't record. And the same thing happens using sound recorder that is in the system utility: it doesn't record if you try to record something directly from the pc, e.g. a MP3 file that is playing.
