Combining two tracks into one - voice overs

Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping that there are some wizards out there that can help me combine a voice recording over some music. Now I don't want the talking to fade in and out while the music starts and stops. I want to be able to "overlay" the talking over music playing in the background. It's for a demo disk and I want to describe the music as it's playing behind my voice. Again, they are to be playing at the same time - not one stop while the other starts. Hope someone can help me on this.
Thanks in advance - DJ Ron

You're in luck - some kind person has written a tutorial about that

I would however also recommend that you use the 1.3.13 version of Audacity - it's a lot better than the old 1.2.6 version.
You can get it here:

If you're starting from scratch, this tutorial covers all of the initial set-up:

Steve,
Thanks very much for the advice. I will give it a try and get back to you. FYI - I did download the Beta Version and will work with that.
Thanks very much.

Sorry guys - the information supplied was not what I was hoping for. I had already tried that editing before I came to the forum looking for a solution. All it lets me do is cut and insert pieces into a cut-up music track. That tutorial DOES NOT let me keep the music all in one piece and have a voice audio over top of it with the music still playing in the background. It only shows you how to have one or the other weaved into a single track - not both.

This tutorial on podcasting from the Audacity Wiki should help you achieve what you are trying to do:

There are several different ways of accomplishing this task, but possibly the quickest is to use the Auto Duck effect:
