record in same track?

Hello. want to record sounds in the sme track, not have audacity create a new track every time i click on the record button. Is that possible?
Not in 1.2 but in 1.3.x there is a new Append Record function.
In 1.2 you would need to use the Pause function while recording and then un-Pause to start recording again.
