Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Windows XP and 7

Post by MircaleUrbana » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:48 pm

Sir/Madam:
I have 2 computers. A laptop with 7 and a Desktop with XP. If I record with the LAPTOP with 7 which has a better Audacity program will it play on the PC with XP which is hooked up to a stereo as I have two different Audacity programs.

Also I have an external hard drive which I would like to put all the music on therefore I would like to know if the music is recorded on either will it play on the other i.e. If I record on 7 will it play on XP or if I record 7 will it play on XP if I store it all on the external hard drive. The two computers both have Windows Media Centers thought the Laptop has a JBL sound system which is superior.

Projects made in Audacity 1.3.x cannot be opened by Audacity 1.2.x

Audacity 1.3.13 will work on both XP and 7, so I'd recommend putting this version on both machines.
(get it here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ )

In case you're wondering, the reason why it says "1.3.13: best version for Vista and Win 7" but does not mention XP, is because XP can use either version, whereas Vista and Win 7 should only use the 1.3.x version. Audacity 1.3.13 is much better than the old 1.2.6 version.
