Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity 1.3 Beta on Windows 7, can't record from speakers

Post by Anatoli » Mon Sep 26, 2011 2:09 pm

Hi,

Let me start with a picture, which explains better than words. I have already read the fixes for Vista and 7. The problem is that I don't have any other recording devices, disabled or disconnected (both options are ticked).

Your advise is appreciated, subscribing to this thread.

Recording from Stereo-Mix (or whatever your computer calls it) is not a guaranteed service. It's a highly hidden service because if you leave it that way by accident, it can interfere with the computer's real job of straight recording and corporate conferencing.

Some computers leave it out.

You can get software packages that let you do this on many if not all PCs like Total Recorder.

Thank you. Pity to get the free software (Audacity) to work, you now need to buy other software.

I have installed their (Highcriteria's Total Recorder) trial version. After the reboot I still don't see new devices in the recording tab.

Pity to get the free software (Audacity) to work, you now need to buy other software.
Audacity will record any audio presented to it. If your computer doesn't have a microphone, Audacity will not be able to record a microphone, either. Having Stereo Mix missing is not unusual. Macs can't record internet audio without adding other software.
(Total Reorder) An ideal tool for recording streaming audio, Mic input, or Line-in input from external devices connected to your PC. Video Pro Edition also allows you record video from screen or a video device like web cam or TV tuner.
Streaming is a Total Recorder function, not Windows. That's why it works even with Windows services missing. Follow Total Recorder's instructions.

If it still fails, there are other software packages or services that may allow you to do this.
