When I delete a portion of the audio sometimes I don't want the remaining track to the right to automatically snap left, connect to the audio on the left, and fill in the open space. Sometimes I want that space to remain. I'm used to being able to do this when I work in Pro Tools, but I don't see how to change this default in Audacity. Is this possible?
Re: Editing: turning off snap default
Audacity 1.2 is really old and lacks a lot of features that are available in 1.3.13 http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
In Audacity 1.3.13 you can use:
Edit > Remove Audio > Split Cut
or
Edit > Remove Audio > Split Delete
shortcuts are:
Alt+Ctrl+X
and
Alt+Ctrl+K
respectively.
