Crash when cut and paste

Please help. I am very new to Audacity, but I have managed to record a voice track and a music track but when I try to cut a section of one to paste in the other Audacity crashes. I am working with Windows XP and have even tried on two separate computers but the same problem keeps happening. Can someone please help me? This is for a hold music track I am trying to produce for work.

I think Audacity 1.3 will suit your needs better than Audacity 1.2

Also, Audacity is a multi-track editor - you do not need to paste all the sound clips into the same track - use the time shift tool to move the audio clips into the correct place - Audacity will automatically mix the clips of all tracks when you play or export.
