I'm having trouble aligning the center of the vertical scale with the center of the track. Doesn't matter if it's a mic or a guitar, the center of the track is slightly lower than the center of the scale. The lower half of the signal has more dark blue than does the top. And the sound isn't quite right.
I've tried Shift Clicking and that helped some but the problem still exists. It used to line up perfectly. Any help from you all would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Fred

You've posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum. If you're really using Audacity 1.2.x I'd highly recommend that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 http://audacityteam.org/download/
Could you post a screenshot to show what you mean?fredgold52 wrote:the center of the track is slightly lower than the center of the scale.

Re: Vertical Scale Alignment
I'm new to screen shots. OK, looks like it worked. I hope you can see how the midpoint of the track is below the center of the vertical scale. Also, how the bottom half of the signal is much heavier blue than the top. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no help. the newer version 1.3.3 does the same thing. Can you help me?

That's DC offset. It comes from your digitizer or sound card. Mine was broken when I captured that test.
You can get rid of it with Effect > Normalize > Remove DC. Don't actually normalize the sound. That's different.

Re: Vertical Scale Alignment
Koz,
The 'normalize' effect does straighten things out. But every time I start a new track, the signal line goes below the center line. It used to be that was the default position was for the signal line and the vertical center line to line up, now it's not. Any idea how I get back to the original default?
Thanks,
Fred
