Silver haired novice needs help: Several months ago, using an M-Audio mic I recorded a number of spoken poems and made a CD. Recently, I returned to make another set of recordings and discovered when I pushed the record button I got no input, only a flat, straight red line traveled across my Audacity monitor.
After exploring online and watching Audacity training videos, I noticed that the upper right portion of my Audacity monitor was blank: no mic icon, no speaker icon, no L/R channel designation for either and no -45 to 0 scale for either.
I tried un-installing and re-installing but that did not change the conditions on my Audacity monitor.
I suspect now that something I changed or added to my computer since I last recorded is somehow blocking Audacity. The only two things I can think of: I added IDrive backup software and I upgraded to Firefox's latest version, 6.something, I think.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 that is four years old +/- and Windows XP, Trend Micro Internet Security.
If you have a suggestion for me, I will be grateful but please do not assume I know very much about anything technical. Thanks!
Bill

Re: Trouble downloading Audacity
My first suggestion would be to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.13 (unicode) http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows
