Capturing Audio from an Olympus DVR

I need to capture some audio recorded on an Olympus VN-7000 so that I can edit it in Audacity. I can find nothing in the Help online that tells me how to do this. I am new to using Audacity - so new that the toolbars are still daunting. I'm going through the tutorials but haven't become familiar enough with the software yet to feel comfortable.

If anyone has done this successfully and can tell me what to do - in simple terms please (because I'm a simpleton) - I will very much appreciate the help.

You picked the worst combination. This recorder has no removable storage and it doesn't have a computer interface, so your only option is to adapt the headphone output connection to your computer. 3.5mm or 1/8" plug should fit into the headphone socket and if the other end of the cable is another 1/8", it should slide right into your Mac Line-In or your Deskside Windows machine, Stereo Line-In.

But probably not your Windows Laptop. You can try it anyway, but your Windows Laptop Mic-In is very different and you may get highly distorted sound. Try turning your Olympus volume control down almost as far as it will go.

What you're supposed to do (with your Windows Laptop) is use a line-level adapter like the UCA-202.

And a 1/8" for the Olympus and dual RCA for the adapter. Like this..

You will only get sound on the "Left" of a stereo show because the Olympus is a mono device, but once you get it that far, you can use Audacity's editing and management controls to produce anything else.
