Hey. Thanks to anyone that catches this message because i NEED YOU..
I'm releasing an Information product for Inventors, (audio ebook) and I've just recorded the first 90 min of the transcript.
The problem with Normalise and Compressor is that they don't work great if there are any high wave sounds on the recording, (which there always are).
Going through each 10 seconds to normalize or use compression to get the audio to sound great will take forever.
Is there any solution out there that anyone knows of, or is it just impossible to quickly normalize or use compressor to get the audio to a good level on long audio files?
Gotta have this online within 48 hours........

Chris's Compressor is designed to smooth out volume variations in any length show. It also optimizes the overall volume -- usually upward.

Thanks a lot for the link.
And if anyone else has had any experience of levelling out and vumumising up long audio's, would be great to hear from you.

That didn't work?
Chris's claim to fame is it works as well as the physical compressors at the radio station -- functionally invisible while it's working. It's the one and only software compressor that we've ever found that works as well as it does -- by itself.
Of course if you have a destroyed show, you're not into leveling and production, you're into repairs, and rescue. Big difference. In that case, Effect > Leveler may be more your cup of tea.

As with many Nyquist plug-ins, processing very long shows with Chris's compressor can be very slow.
The built-in compressor in Audacity 1.3.13 is very much faster. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Compressor
I'd not recommend the built-in compressor in Audacity 1.2.x
Processing very large files can be quite cumbersome. Often it is easier to split long recordings into more manageable chunks (say 30 minutes or so each).
