It should. If it's still running Win7, then the latest Audacity Beta, 1.3.13, should slide right in.

Do Not use Audacity 1.2.
That's a pretty simple, stripped-down computer, so you won't be mixing a massive symphony any time soon, but for simple recording and editing, it should be OK.

Thanks for the info, any other suggestions re: using Audacity for recording ie. laying down track is most welcome...
