unable to open target file for writing
Have recorded music on audacity 1.2.6. Have placed lame_enc.dll file in Audacity folder. Have selected the lame file to locate it for file saving. I get the above message (Unable to open target file for writing)when I try to save the file. Has anybody found their way through this one?

Re: unable to open target file for writing
Are you using Export Multiple? If so I guess you are putting system-prohibited characters in the file names (in the labels or in the Track Dropdown menu). On Windows systems these characters are not allowed in file names or folder names:

Re: unable to open target file for writing
Since found that this arose through trying to write direct to CD. Ok if export file to hard drive then save to CD. Graebar

I also ran into this problem, but found it was a different issue. I was trying to write to a folder whose title was written in Chinese. Once I changed it to export to a folder with roman characters, there was no problem, probably related to the issue mentioned above.

Re: unable to open target file for writing
It depends what you are trying to do and what operating system you are on. On Windows XP or later using Audacity 1.2.6, you can export to filenames containing extended ASCII characters like é (or to folders containing such characters) and similarly import files with such names or files inside folders with such names. Unicode-only characters like Chinese won't work.nrich wrote:I also ran into this problem, but found it was a different issue. I was trying to write to a folder whose title was written in Chinese. On the other hand, 1.2 projects have no tolerance at all of extended ASCII characters - the project .aup file must only contain numerals and unaccented characters.
To get round all these problems, download Audacity Beta which has Unicode support:

Re: unable to open target file for writing
Thank you Gale. I had used both an ' and a ? in a song title. Once they were removed it all worked fine
