Beeping while recording from USB turntable

Hi, I'm having trouble with Audacity 1.2.6. i'm trying to record from a USB turntable and i've got it all set up and its working sweet - sounds great. The only problem is random beeps which cut the track every 5 secs -ish. I've tried searching the net and previous posts on this forum but can't find anything. Any help will be much appreciated ;) Cheers :)
