filter imports, sample tracks & conversions

Hello, (3 questions simple which I couldn't find answers on)
I was a user of FruityLoops before.

1)In fruity loops, preset filters were imported and placed over the timeline to add effects. Can all those filter effects be created in Audacity using the parameter changing in the effects tools?

2)In fruity loops you could add drum beats, and instrument samples, can audacity do this too?

3)what program do we use to convert .wma to mp3 and what do we use to extract sound tracks from videos?

I think it's a mistake to compare the two programs. They are both audio programs, but other than that are quite different. If you start with the idea that Audacity is a free alternative to FruityLoops you will be frustrated and disappointed when Audacity can not do something that you could do in FL, and you will miss all the things that you can do in Audacity that you can not do in FL.

It sounds like you are into making your own music, so I would recommend that you download Audacity 1.3 beta as it has many more features than 1.2.6

When you have installed it, have a go with some of the tutorials here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tutorials
and have a read through the tips given here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tips

This will give you a good feel for the program and will show you how to use many of Audacity's features.

I wouldn't be likely to use and recommend it if it had viruses. However you should always scan all download with an up to date virus checker as a matter of course.

Finding the right download page is a bit of a pain, and the user interface is a bit odd for a Windows program, but it supports a huge range of formats, and it's free.
