Recording Problems

Hey,
This may or may not be a noobie question but, I still didn't find an answer on the forum so I apoligise in advanced.
I am using Audacity for recording music (guitar) through the line in.
all I want to do is to record multiple sounds. i have one sound recorded and now when I go to record the second sound it dosnt play the top one.
it is hard to keep in time if you can't here the first recording

My Setup:
Guitar to the amp from the line out socket to the the line in on the pc

"Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
Select "play other tracks while recording new one"

"Edit" (menu at top of Audacity)
"Preferences" (menu option)
Then select "Audio I/O"
