I've been searching this forum and i cant seem to find the answer to my problem.

I am trying to record conversations between me and my friend over gtalk/skype but when i set audacity to Stereo Mix it only records his voice. Out of the other options ,the only one that works is line in to record myself.

I am using 1.2.6. I have a microphone that uses the microphone jack.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

I'm not a Skype user myself, but I recall from reading other posts on the forum taht it can be tricky to capture both sides of a Skype call. IIRC the recommended solution is to purchase TotalRecorder for the cpature and then use Audacity for your editing. You can get TR from here: http://www.highcriteria.com/ (it does cost - but is relatively cheap at $17.95).

The other approach is that each party in the Skype conversation records their own microphone and ignores recording the other persons voice. The two recordings can then be Exported as WAV files and imported into a new Audacity project for editing and synchronising.

Absolutely no need to pay for a Skype recorder if that's all you want. Google for a free Skype recorder - examples are

If you want to capture your microphone when recording stereo mix then you need to unmute it on the playback side of the Windows control panel.
