Hi there - I've been using AUdacity for recording presentations for a long while, with absolutely no problems. I record at 48k, mono, as its only for speech, convert to MP3 (also at 48k) for upload to a transcription service.

So far, so good - Audacity rocks!

Until now! I have 3 files to convert and upload and one is only as a .bak file. I have tried following the onstructions in the forum (changing the name, changing the empty file name and re-opening, but have nothing!

Any ideas how to retrieve this file. Inevitably, its really important... Help, please!

You missed an important word or two. You Export as WAV or you Save as Projects? If all your work is Projects, then your AUP file and your DATA folder have to exist and be in the same folder or directory. The AUP file is the show manager and the DATA folder has all the stuff to make your music. You can't have one without the other and if they're not close together, they can't find each other.

Sudden Computer Insanity for no reason can be caused by the computer running out of disk space. Which Windows and how much empty drive space to you have?
