1.3.2 Version for Windows 7 is missing some settings

May I introduce myself - I'm a retired Piano Technician living in South West England.
I've been doing good things with Audacity on the audio recording front for many years. However -
I wonder if anyone could help please with running Audacity in my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit not as easy as I had hoped.

I tried downloading the 1.3.2 Beta version and it wouldn't recognize any Capture Device.
I looked on the forum and saw that the Help Audio settings need tweaking, but it didn't have anything in the list that said anything was wrong other than Capture device missing.

My Soundcard is a Real Tek that came with my HP PC. It plays back sound files and I can record using Windows Sound Recorder
but I can't get Audacity to give me anything that your good helpers here recommended to change.

No ALSA Option, only MME or Windows Sound in Edit Preferences list.
No Audio I/O settings either. All the audio options in the Help section show they should be compatible with 44100 sample rate

I've had to uninstall the program and come here for advice in case I need to download a different version.

But if you think I should wait until there's something newer as mooted on these pages to suit W7 64 bit then I will do that.
I do miss my Audacity program - I had two of them on my old XP machine.

Thanks for your help.

Replying to my own post here in case it helps anyone else with the same problem.
I went to another site and searched for Audacity for Windows 7 64-bit and got a copy to download of version
1.2.6 instead. I uninstalled the other one, and installed this earlier one.
It works perfectly with none of the difficulties of the other one finding the Capture Device or Sound Input from Mic or Stereo Mix etc etc.

So I've got my Audacity up and running and it works a treat.

So you can ignore the request in my thread.

Thanks, but 1.3.2 is a buggy early Beta that is nearly 5 years old. Why download that? Even if you meant 1.3.12, that isn't the current Beta which is 1.3.13:
http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows

1.2.6 isn't officially supported on Vista or 7 because it may crash when you press Stop after recording.

If 1.3.13 cannot detect the correct recording inputs, let us know and we'll look into it.

Well that's kind of you to fill in the details on this and thanks for the warning.
But it doesn't solve the problem of why setting options were missing and the later version intended for Windows 7 64bit would not recognize anything from my sound card. No mic settings, no Stereo Mix, no Input whatsoever.

I checked out all the inputs were working and switched on but Audacity wasn't able to "see" them.

Setting it to be able to see them was beyond me, because the help forum procedure wasn't possible.

So going back to an older version was my only choice as I couldn't get an instant fix by going to Audacity Help.

Have you any idea how I can make the later version work, and if so would you mind giving me some fairly sequential instructions that can be applied to a version of Audacity that has got some of its menus incomplete please?

As Gale posted, Audacity 1.3.2 is an early beta version of Audacity. Over the last 5 years there have been many improvements and bug fixes to Audacity 1.3.x.
Audacity 1.3.13 is the current version of Audacity 1.3.x and is a very mature beta version that is used successfully throughout the world by millions of people.

It was not your only choice. You could update to the current version which is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Hopefully the current version will work correctly straight "out of the box", but if you do have any difficulty getting it to work correctly, do post back and we'll try to get you up and running.

1.3.2 is not intended for any version of Windows 7 because Windows 7 came out several years after 1.3.2.

If you have now enabled the inputs in Sound in the Windows Control Panel, and 1.2.6 sees them, then 1.3.13 should see them.

You must restart Audacity after enabling inputs or adding new ones before Audacity will see them, but in 1.3.13 there is a workaround - you can click Transport > Rescan Audio Devices after enabling or adding new inputs instead of restarting.
