cutting voices from sound

I've used the search function, and hell, googled it 30 or so times but to no avail.
So, is it possible to cut certain dialogue of a sound file? Example: i've saved the sound file from a video file, now I want to cut out the voices (so I can save them later as mp3) from the background music/noise.
If so.. please explain to me how! If not.. what other program can do this? I've seen some of Adobe, but don't want to pay so much hard cash for it..

me again,
I've already tried extraboy.. but it just renders my audio file to complete silence! What is up with the settings anyway? Is there a tutorial or help file somewhere?

Here is the tutorial:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... al_Removal
Note that this only works on stereo recordings where the vocal is in the centre and only in the centre. This technique works by removing all audio that is in the centre of the mix, which is the lead vocals on many, but by no means all recordings.
Also note that this will usually not work on MP3 recordings because MP3s will often mess up the stereo separation.

Ok, never mind the topic. I found a way to do it. I used Elevayta's Player Boy with the Extra Boy plugin. I do receive a message before starting Player Boy 'this program cannot acces windows registery' .. which I think is strange and odd too.. But other than that, it works just fine. Although I can't see the menu of Extra Boy in the Player (the one where you can edit the options, slide this n that), because it is hidden in the bottom right of the window (and for some reason I can't drag it to the middle..) but even with that, it works just fine (guess I don't need to edit that much huh..) *yes, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Player Boy AND extra Boy, but didn't work*
thanks for the assistance anyway.
(if someone might know the answer to my extra boy problem.. feel free to post

)
